"Bizu is well known for their French cakes and pastries, but they also have an extensive menu of 'real' food.  I was absolutely starving, so I ordered a rice dish.  I forgot was this was called - whatever 'mushroom and rice' is French, I suppose - but it's one of their newer dishes and features mushrooms, cheese, and cream on top of a bed . . . .

FOR DAD: SMOKE IT LIKE GROUCHO MARX by Lorie Baltazar

Posted by on 27 February 11

"They look like big Cohiba cigars, cylindrical objects reclining inside a faux felt-lined box.  Their textured gold and silver wrapping is unfurled much the same way a suman is - an over-under motion of one hand while the other holds the object aloft.  As each paper layer falls away, the darkness of its chocolate cloak is revealed, a 'cigar' . . . .

GETTING INSIDE THE BOX by Lorie Baltazar

"Until I meet Jennifer Uy-Wong, for me, packaging is just packaging: sometimes pretty, sometimes eliciting an 'ooh' and 'ahh', but most of the time quite forgettable.  I'm always more intent on getting to what's inside the box - the result of being one track-minded when it comes to food."Read more of the post at Dessert . . . .

"This quintessential breakfast dish consists of two poached eggs reposing on a pair of English muffin halves, slapped with a side of ham, and slathered in Hollandaise sauce.  It was the perfect prescription to quell my craving for a stick-to-my-ribs kind of breakfast, one that would see me through to the end of the day."Read . . . .

"During the holidays nothing succeeds like excess.  Unfortunately, all good things must end, and that includes unrestrained eating, to which I had to bid farewell.  On the first day of the new year, I ate my last no-holds-barred holiday meal because the next day, sanity and control take over."Read more of the post at . . . .
